What you need to know about coal and the W.S. Lee Steam Station

Duke Energy’s W.S. Lee Steam Station is located right outside Pelzer, South Carolina. It began operations in 1951 and has been pumping-out pollution ever since. The W.S. Lee station is ranked 100th most polluting coal plant in the States. Each year fine particulate pollution from Duke’s station is responsible for 33 deaths, 46 heart attacks, and 544 asthma attacks.

The communities affected by Duke’s coal-fired plants deserve clean air and water, pressuring retirement of this plant will put us on the path to a cleaner future.
